LITCHFIELD, Maine — Severe ice and snow storms caused a power outage Tuesday affecting more than half a million people living in the United States and Canada. Hundreds were left fighting the cold and darkness with blankets, fireplaces and candles.

But according to some people there is something hiding in the snow. A man in Litchfield, a small community located in Maine, claimed he saw a strange beast in the snow that terrorized him and his dog.

“It ain’t like it used to be, this cold has become tough man…” said M. P., a single man working in construction. “The ice, the snow, yeah we used to get these before, but this is way too sudden. It has caught us by surprise, damn, it sure has.”

M.P. told Cryptozoology News he was outside his house taking the dog for a fast walk, when his furry friend “went nuts”. It was then that they had an encounter with what the man calls “a white bigfoot.”

Bigfoot Maine“I reckon there wasn’t much visibility, as you can imagine with this amount of snow. But I ain’t blind, man, I know what I saw, and my dog got out of control, barking at it, he never barks this much, he was pulling me like I’ve never seen him do before. When I first noticed it I thought it was a bear or something, but that was something else. It moved fast and like a human. It was fat, huge, and it had white long hair everywhere. Looked like a white bigfoot or something, no kidding. Look I don’t believe there are bigfoots or anything here, or in America or anywhere the world, for that matter, but either that was some guy in a costume or I will have to change my mind about the whole bigfoot deal. Now, who would be willing to dress up like this in this foul weather and get run over by a car or something? No sir, that must have been some animal, only I don’t know what kind of animal it was.”

He said the creature moved right in front of him and his dog, in such a fast fashion that it “seemed impossible for a human to perform a hoax like this”.

“It stopped right in front of us, looked at us, growled at my dog, until he stopped barking. I couldn’t see his eyes well, but they looked brown to me, but very very dark, almost black. Big mouth, like a monkey, with big sharp teeth. I tell you, a freak.”

The “white bigfoot” then emitted a final scream before running¬† away into the woods. “It ran so fast. At some point I saw it using its four legs, looking back at us, but we were frozen.”

The experience left M.P. petrified. “I never thought I’d get to see something like this. I’ve always laughed at all these bigfoot nuts, I had my reasons. Now I guess I’m the crazy one here. Unless it was a very good hoax played on me, that could be, but I tell you again, it ain’t easy for a man to make those kind of moves. That didn’t look human to me.”

He said he looked for hair but it was “quite difficult to look for white hair right on the white snow.” The snow tracks left by the creature were about 3 feet long and 2 feet wide. He claimed the snow fell so hard that by the time he came back to take pictures of the them, they were gone.

The Yeti –also known as the Abominable Snowman– is an ape like cryptid allegedly inhabiting the Himalayas. In the past, there have been reports from Nepal and Tibet, claiming to have seen the creature and even interacted with it.

This is the first Yeti sighting reported in the state of Maine.

Update: Further research indicated that this sighting could not be corroborated and at this point we believe it should not be investigated.

I believe there have been multiple sightings in Maine. I have read articles from the early to mid 1800’s. I will dig them up and send them. None recently though. This is an interesting article.

Thanks for the information Dave. We did some research but weren’t able to find any sightings in Maine. If you find the articles, please do send them!

For what it’s worth… Suspect tracks were found (not by me, see link) in 2000 not far from where I live (just up the road), in Richmond, Maine. Same county as. Litchfield, I believe, and certainly not far in. Maine terms. http://www.gcbro.com/MEsagadahoc001.htm

I have heard stories of bemis maine, one on a sasquatch website, and one other first hand. Also several accounts in the south arm ,elephants mountain area, Leeds, as in the Leeds Lochi, Turner, near the old circle electric the locals call it some French name meaning werewolf, I have heard of accounts in Mexico,Maine, near the old, incinerated site, and canton road / east dixfield , Many accounts in my katadin area. I myself don’t believe it’s true. I hope I’m wrong

The Loups Garou! I heard that story from my high school English teacher, who grew up in the Turner area. I never made the Sasquatch connection, but it could very well be!

I believe him. I saw a Florida Bigfoot when I was 10 yrs old. We lived adjacent to heavily wooded area with a large lake in center.
We had frequent night time visits around the house from scratching on windows to the scariest that was a large slamming against the side of the house. This woke everyone (parents and 4 kids), Dad went out with the shotgun, nothing there. The next morning we found HUGE footprints. What was weird was they only had 3 toes.
It was about 4 months later in the fall of 1969, right at nightfall that as I topped a hill on the way home from a friends house , I saw him emerging from the tall bulrushes across from the house. He didn’t see me thank god, so I hauled butt back to my friends and called my mom to come pick me up. There were several encounters while walking back to the lake, you could hear and smell him and we would take off. They cleared those woods and built Condo’s in the early 80’s after my Mother passed away and we sold the house. I drive by the old house once in a while but it’s all built up now. I often wonder where he went. There are still woods back behind the condos that go way back about 4 miles that attaches to a newly built housing development on the other side, and there’s a small pond we called Coot’s hole over in those woods too, so maybe he is still around.
